Start with the day you want to have: how much time you can spare, who you are traveling with, and how you will reach the meeting point. Those details tell you more than a label such as “VIP” or “luxury.”
Here is how to choose, using our private and Wednesday group tours from Shin-Fuji Station as concrete examples.
1. Check what “private,” “VIP,” or “luxury” actually includes
If you are searching for a Fuji VIP tour or a luxury Mt. Fuji tour, make a short list of the services you expect. Is the vehicle exclusively for your party? Will an English-speaking guide accompany you? Where does pickup happen? Are meals, train tickets, and activities included?
If a particular vehicle model, hotel pickup, or a fine-dining reservation matters to you, ask for confirmation before booking. A tour name alone does not answer those questions.
At Fuji Soul Tours, our private tour includes an English-speaking local guide and a vehicle for your party. Shin-Fuji Station is the usual meeting and finishing point; hotel pickup and drop-off are also available within the Fuji and Fujinomiya area, but not outside it. Train tickets, food, drinks, entry fees, and optional activities are separate. Our focus is a personal introduction to the mountain’s local culture, with time for questions and a pace agreed with your guide.
2. Match the tour to your travel day
Our private tours last four hours. We arrange the start time after booking around your train plans, subject to an agreed schedule. Allow at least 30 minutes between the end of your private tour and your onward train; travel to and from Shin-Fuji is additional.
The Wednesday group tour runs from 09:00 to 15:00 during October–December 2026, with guests arriving at Shin-Fuji Station by 08:45. It needs a six-hour space in your day and does not follow the private tour’s flexible start-time arrangement.

3. Consider who the guide is speaking to
A private tour can be a couple in a van or a larger party traveling together. What makes it private is that the guide is speaking to your party alone. In a shared small-group tour, the guide addresses travelers from several bookings. Both formats welcome questions; a private guide can spend more time following your interests and building on your questions.

Travelling with a child under six? Contact us before booking.
For a private mini bus, request at least seven days ahead. We confirm within 48 hours or refund you in full if we cannot confirm the request. The shared Wednesday tour needs at least ten guests to run; we check one week before departure and offer a free transfer to another Wednesday or a full refund if it does not reach that number.
4. Compare the full cost, not just the headline price
Look at the price for your actual party size and check whether it is quoted per person or for the whole group. Our private van price varies with the number of guests. For both formats, budget separately for train tickets and on-site spending. As examples, our yakisoba lunch option is about ¥900 per person and a matcha café visit is ¥1,000 per person. These are separate options, not a promise that both are part of every tour.
If your plans may change, compare cancellation terms too. For the private van, free cancellation and date changes are available until 11:59 PM Japan Standard Time (JST), two days before the tour date. For the private mini bus, free cancellation is available until 11:59 PM JST, four days before the tour date. For example, for a tour on the 18th, the van deadline is 11:59 PM on the 16th and the mini-bus deadline is 11:59 PM on the 14th, both Japan time. These deadlines follow the tour date, not the arranged start time. Cancellations after the applicable deadline are non-refundable. Guest cancellations of the Wednesday tour are non-refundable. The refund offered when a Wednesday does not reach its minimum guest count is a separate condition.
5. Choose how deeply you want to explore
On both tours, you can ask about what you see and hear. On a private tour, your guide can develop those conversations around your interests, connecting the places and experiences with the region’s history, Mt. Fuji, and Japanese culture and values. That time for deeper explanation can turn a visit into a fuller understanding of local life.
Tell us whether you would prefer more time for photography, local food, tea, or cultural conversation. Your guide helps choose a realistic mix within four hours. Venue availability, weather, and travel time still shape what is possible; every activity cannot fit into one visit.
The exact private stops are part of the discovery when you join us. Before booking, we can explain the kinds of experiences, practical requirements, and likely additional costs without publishing a route to our curated places.
A shared tour is a better fit if you enjoy meeting other travelers and are comfortable following a group course. Our Wednesday course may change with weather and availability, but it is not individually customized for each guest. Whichever format you choose, a clear view of Mt. Fuji depends on the weather.
Questions to settle before booking
Does a private tour start at my hotel?
Our usual meeting point is Shin-Fuji Station’s gate exit. For a private tour, hotel pickup and drop-off are also available within the Fuji and Fujinomiya area. We do not provide hotel transfers outside that area, including Tokyo or Kyoto. Tell us your hotel when arranging pickup so we can confirm the meeting details.
Can we bring large suitcases?
For the private van, large cases can travel with parties of up to three guests. For larger parties or another tour format, tell us the number and size of your bags so we can confirm arrangements. Luggage storage is available at the Shin-Fuji Station office from 08:30 to 17:00, in a relatively spacious storage area. Please check space availability and any fees, and plan to collect your bags during those opening hours.
Is a private tour worth it for our party?
It may be if you value a guide speaking just to your party and time to explore questions in depth. Both private and shared tours welcome questions. A private tour gives the guide more room to connect your interests with the region, Mt. Fuji, and Japanese culture and values. If you enjoy sharing the conversation with other travelers and the Wednesday schedule works, the group tour offers that experience at a fixed per-person price.
