Bag too big for a coin locker? Leave it at the Tourist Information Center instead. Just note its limited hours: it takes and returns bags only between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
Where they are
Both are outside the ticket gates, so you can leave your bags before you meet your guide. The coin lockers stand in the station concourse, a few steps from the Shinkansen ticket gates.
Coin lockers
| Size | Per day | Inside (W × D × H) |
|---|---|---|
| Small | ¥400 | 32 × 62 × 32 cm |
| Medium | ¥500 | 32 × 62 × 55 cm |
| Large | ¥600 | 32 × 62 × 85 cm |
The door opening is 32 cm wide. Pick a size your bag fits with a few centimeters to spare in width and height.
- Hours: 6:00 AM – 11:20 PM. You can't put in or take out bags from 11:20 PM to 6:00 AM.
- Payment: cash (¥100 and ¥500 coins, ¥1,000 notes) or a Japanese transit card (Suica, PASMO, ICOCA — including Suica in Apple Wallet). No credit cards.
- Up to 3 days. Each extra day is charged when you take your bags out.
- Keep your receipt. Paid in cash? You open the locker by scanning the QR code on it. Paid by card? Tap the same card.
- Station staff can't give change or open a locker for you.
How to use them
- Put your bags in an empty locker — one with a green light.
- Pull down the locking lever and check that the light goes out.
- Pay at the machine with cash or a transit card.
- Take your receipt. You need it (or the same card) to get your bags back.
